Aged care in Bankstown
In-home and community aged care delivered across Bankstown and the surrounding streets, with carers matched on language, gender preference and culture.
What ageing in Bankstown actually looks like
Bankstown is the commercial heart of the south west, and for older residents that cuts both ways. Almost everything is close - the hospital, the library, medical centres, Bankstown Central, the council services - but the centre itself is busy, the car parks are large and confusing, and a person who has become slower or less confident can find the trip in more difficult than the distance suggests.
A lot of our Bankstown work is therefore not about doing things for people. It is about making the trip out possible again: someone to go with, someone who knows where the accessible entrance is, and enough time not to rush.
The homes here
The suburb is split between older freestanding homes on generous blocks in the surrounding streets and a growing band of apartment blocks near the centre. That produces two very different care pictures: gardens, steps and large yards that have become unmanageable on one side, and lift access, small bathrooms and social isolation on the other.
Community and language
Bankstown has one of the largest Arabic-speaking populations in Australia, alongside long-established Vietnamese, Chinese and Greek communities. Arabic-speaking carers are regularly requested here and we can usually match them.
What we are asked for most in Bankstown
- Accompanied activities and transport into the town centre and to appointments
- Personal care with gender-matched, Arabic-speaking carers
- Registered nurse clinical care after a Bankstown-Lidcombe discharge
- Gardening and home maintenance on the larger blocks
We deliver the full Support at Home service list here, across clinical and allied health, personal and social support and home and daily living. You can model what your budget covers with our pricing calculator before speaking to anyone.
Asked locally
Can you support someone being discharged from Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital?
Yes, and this is a large part of our Bankstown work. Contact us before the discharge date if you can. The days immediately after coming home carry the highest risk of readmission, and having nursing, personal care and a safe bathroom sorted before arrival changes that materially.
Do you have Arabic-speaking carers available in Bankstown?
Yes. Bankstown has one of the largest Arabic-speaking populations in the country and it is the language we are asked for most often here. Tell us at referral if a gender-matched carer is also required, since we match both together rather than one at a time.
Where we take people in Bankstown
Most of the outings we do here are short and specific. These are the three places that come up most often in Bankstown care plans.
Paul Keating Park
In the middle of the city centre
Flat, close and useful precisely because it is not a shopping centre. It is often the first outing after someone has been unwell, because it is short enough to turn back from.
Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre
80 Rickard Road
A lift to all three floors, four hours of free basement parking and a Justice of the Peace service, which saves a separate trip when paperwork needs witnessing. The branch also runs a self-select and delivery service for seniors who can no longer get in, and Council's Aged and Disability Team keeps a Tovertafel there, an interactive light table used with people living with dementia.
Bankstown Central
1 North Terrace
Undercover and level, but genuinely large. This is one of the places where having someone alongside matters far more than the distance from home does.
Getting to any of these sits under accompanied activities or direct transport. Both are funded services, not favours. If there is somewhere else that matters to the person you are calling about, tell us and we will build the week around that instead.
Other areas we cover
This is not a complete list. We deliver aged care across Sydney, so if your suburb is not shown here, get in touch and we will arrange suitable supports for you.
