Aged care in Tempe

In-home and community aged care delivered across Tempe and the surrounding streets, with carers matched on language, gender preference and culture.

What ageing in Tempe actually looks like

Tempe is the northern edge of where we work, sitting on the Cooks River between the inner west and the airport. It is a smaller, older suburb with a strong local character, a station, and Tempe Reserve along the river, which is one of the better walking environments in the area for someone regaining confidence after an illness or a fall.

Aircraft noise and main-road traffic are part of daily life here, and they matter more than people expect for older residents with hearing loss - conversation and phone calls become harder, and that accelerates withdrawal.

The homes here

Compact terraces, semis and small freestanding cottages on tight blocks, many with narrow hallways, small bathrooms and limited off-street parking, which affects how carers and equipment can access the home.

Community and language

A long-established Greek and Italian population alongside a younger inner-west demographic, with a mix of very long-term residents and newer arrivals.

What we are asked for most in Tempe

  • Walking and rehabilitation support along Tempe Reserve
  • Occupational therapy for small, narrow homes
  • Individual social support where hearing loss is causing withdrawal
  • Domestic assistance and meal preparation

We deliver the full Support at Home service list here, across clinical and allied health, personal and social support and home and daily living. You can model what your budget covers with our pricing calculator before speaking to anyone.

Questions from Tempe families

Asked locally

She is nervous about walking again after a fall. Where can she practise?

Tempe Reserve along the Cooks River is one of the better environments nearby for rebuilding confidence: flat, open and away from traffic. A carer can go with her while she works back up to distance.

The house is a narrow terrace. Does that limit what you can do?

It limits equipment options more than it limits care. Narrow hallways and small bathrooms rule out some standard aids, so an occupational therapy assessment is worth doing early rather than after something has been ordered.

Around the suburb

Where we take people in Tempe

Tempe is small, and its best feature for older residents is the river. We use it deliberately.

Tempe Reserve

Holbeach Avenue, on the Cooks River

Flat, open and away from the main roads. It is the best environment nearby for someone rebuilding walking confidence after a fall, and a carer can go with them while they work back up to distance.

Marrickville Library and Pavilion

313 Marrickville Road, Marrickville

Lift access to the upper levels, accessible toilets on every floor and mobility parking in the car park. It is the branch we suggest in this area for exactly those reasons.

The Cooks River path

West along the river

Useful in short pieces. Tempe sits under the flight path and beside main roads, and for someone with hearing loss a quieter stretch of path is easier to hold a conversation on, which is half the reason the walk is worth doing.

Getting to any of these sits under accompanied activities or direct transport. Both are funded services, not favours. If there is somewhere else that matters to the person you are calling about, tell us and we will build the week around that instead.

  3. 3Matching your carerWe match a carer on language, gender preference, cultural fit and availability, then brief them properly on your household before the first visit.
  4. 4Services startSupport begins on the agreed schedule with the same carer wherever possible. We check in early, then keep checking in.
