Aged care in Parramatta

In-home and community aged care delivered across Parramatta and the surrounding suburbs, with carers matched on language, gender preference and culture.

What ageing in Parramatta actually looks like

Parramatta has changed faster than anywhere else we work. For most people that is progress; for someone with memory problems who has lived here for fifty years it is disorienting, and it is a reason to protect the places that have not changed rather than to stop going out.

The practical picture is also split in two. A large share of our Parramatta work is in apartments, where the limiting factor is building access rather than anything clinical, and the rest is in the older surrounding streets, where it is steps, gardens and long-held routines.

The homes here

A sharp contrast between older freestanding homes in the surrounding streets and a very large stock of apartments in and around the centre. Apartment care here is mostly a question of access: intercoms, lifts, loading zones and building management all have to be arranged before a carer arrives rather than negotiated at the door.

Community and language

Parramatta is highly diverse, but differently so from our south-western suburbs. At the 2021 Census the most commonly spoken languages at home after English were Hindi, Mandarin, Nepali, Tamil and Telugu. We will be straightforward about what that means for matching: Arabic-speaking and gender-matched carers are available, and for the South Asian and Chinese languages we will tell you honestly at referral whether we can match consistently.

What we are asked for most in Parramatta

  • Personal care in apartments, with building access arranged in advance
  • Individual social support for people living alone in high-rise
  • Registered nurse clinical care and post-discharge support after Westmead
  • Transport and accompanied activities to appointments

We deliver the full Support at Home service list here, across clinical and allied health, personal and social support and home and daily living. You can model what your budget covers with our pricing calculator before speaking to anyone.

Questions from Parramatta families

Asked locally

My mother is on the fourteenth floor and the building is strict about access. Is that a problem?

It is a logistics question rather than a care question. We arrange intercom, lift and building management access before the first visit, which avoids a carer standing in a foyer while someone who is unsteady tries to reach the door. Tell us the building's arrangements at referral and we will deal with them then, not on the day.

The city has changed so much that she gets lost in it. Should she stop going out?

No. She should stop going out alone. Accompanied activities exist for exactly this, and the alternative, staying in, measurably accelerates both physical and cognitive decline. We would also lean on the places that have not changed, Parramatta Park in particular, because familiarity does real work for someone whose memory is unreliable.

Around the suburb

Where we take people in Parramatta

Parramatta has changed faster than any suburb we work in, and for someone with memory problems that is not a small thing. Familiar places matter more here, not less.

Parramatta Park

Between the river and Old Government House

Wide sealed paths around Old Government House, which is World Heritage-listed as one of the Australian Convict Sites. It is large, flat and unchanged, which makes it the most reliably familiar place in the city for someone who finds the new centre disorienting.

The library at 5 Parramatta Square

In the PHIVE building, on the square

A short walk from the station and the bus interchange. A warm, level, indoor destination that does not require buying anything in order to stay in it, which is more useful than it sounds on a hot or wet day.

Westfield Parramatta

Off Church Street

Undercover, level and enormous. Enormous is the operative word: this is a place where an older person is far better off with someone alongside, and a good share of our Parramatta social support hours are spent exactly here.

Getting to any of these sits under accompanied activities or direct transport. Both are funded services, not favours. If there is somewhere else that matters to the person you are calling about, tell us and we will build the week around that instead.

  2. 2Care planningWe review needs, budget and preferences together, and set out exactly which supports we would provide, on which days, at what cost.
  3. 3Matching your carerWe match a carer on language, gender preference, cultural fit and availability, then brief them properly on your household before the first visit.
  4. 4Services startSupport begins on the agreed schedule with the same carer wherever possible. We check in early, then keep checking in.
